What a season!

We have been very busy before closing out this successful year 2010!

Summer Sun Pageant:  This was our 1st annual pageant!  What a great success.  The girls had so much fun dressing up for one night and enjoying a very laid back evening of being beautiful. (Of course they are always beautiful but how neat it was not seeing them in their bathing suits and goggles for a change!)  They looked so gorgeous in their dresses and heels.  We had vendor booths, professional photography, music and a live announcer Chris Rice to tell us a little bit about each girl.  Next year will be just as much fun-come join us! Enter your gal to help support the pool!  Each pageant contestant also enjoyed riding in the Fall fest Parade in Barboursville.  This is open to any girl-she does not have to be a resident of Guyan Estates to Participate.  Total profits (after all expenses: $310)

Labor Day Dog Swim:   We wanted to close out the pool with a  little bit of fun.  The pool went to the dogs for a while.  Did they have fun! Dogs jumping from diving boards and doing the doggie paddle!  We saw dogs chasing their tennis balls and splashing it up having a rip roaring time.  Dogs of all sizes, colors and shapes--we welcomed them to our pool for an evening of 4 legged fun!

Clubhouse Parties:  This is something new we are trying out.  We had a couple of these Clubhouse parties for different age groups.  This is giving us many ideas on things we can do in the future too!  You can rent a D.J for your next birthday party for you or your child.  We also have some fun 80's black light decorations.  Stay tuned for upcoming news on the Community Building turning into a very scary sight on Halloween Weekend for a Clubhouse Halloween Party! It will be SPOOKtacular!

Hot Dog Sale:    Biannually the Guyan Estates Community has a rummage sale throughout the subdivision.  Many houses participate in selling..LOTS of people come and shop!  The Pool Board uses this opportunity to earn money so that we can pay bills through the winter months.  They worked very hard selling hot dogs, snacks and drinks on Saturday October 2nd and raised $1368 in profits! Hooray Guyan Estates Swim Club!  We encourage all residents to not sell baked goods/foods during this time so that we can keep the pool and community building afloat,   Thanks to all of you that donated goods, money and time!

Hershell Marshall and his team continue to get the vinyl siding installed on the community building.  Wow it sure does change things! Have you checked it out lately?  There are also changes going on inside the building.  New vinyl flooring is being installed in the bathrooms & kitchen...details later to come.  Please think of your community-this pool and this building that need continuous maintenance and attention to stay open and supporting to YOUR community.  This is YOURS-lets work together so that we can continue to have these amenities for our subdivision.  Rent the building for your next baby shower or scout meeting.  Rent the pool for your next celebration. USE these wonderful privileges available! Did you know there's also a beautiful park in Guyan Estates to play?  Many of our neighbors worked hard since the 1960's keeping these luxuries within our community. Come and get involved-join the board, volunteer your time, lend a hand or a supply-we'd love to have you!

A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR POOL BOARD FOR MAKING THIS ALL HAPPEN! (& their spouses who also donate their time and services too!)

We are so happy the pool is opening each summer still today. It cannot do this without your support. Thank you for any time money or visits you have given this precious community pool.

Come to Movie Night-new sound equipment for us to enjoy the dive-in movies! Stop by and see your community having fun each Friday night-all ages-for a swim beneath the lights.

Its not too late to get your child (or yourself!) enrolled for swim lessons. Lessons are Mon/Wed/Fri at 11 a.m. All ages and levels are welcome and encouraged. Our guards to a great job.

Zumba is in full swing! Mondays and Thursday nights in the community building at 7:30 p.m. Only $3. Come get in shape! (The a/c is on and running to keep you cool :)-bring water!)

Speaking of community building---have you seen the changes happening? Walk by and look at the new vinyl siding going up. Say hi and thank you to the men working on it for our community. (Or stop in and help them--even dropping them some lunch or lemonade is helpful :)) They are donating their time and energy to get it done. Thanks to all that have donated money to aid this project. We continue to raise extra money to put toward more improvements. Stay tuned.

summer days march forward

Big thank you to the Haney family for donating a receiver for the sound system at the pool. The movie is much better on sound now!

Terrific job to Lifeguard Ben on this weeks Movie Night. He was the only guard on duty this week and it was very busy, but he managed to stay on top of things the entire time. It was a job very well done and is much appreciated!

Hats of to the Farmdale Church of Christ Mission Team! They spent their summer day painting and prepping our Community Building & getting it ready for vinyl siding. After their hard work in the hot sun, they cooled off for a swim in the pool. Thank you Herschel Marshall and your church youth and friends!

We've been busy...stay tuned for the last two weeks meeting minutes to bring all up to speed on all of the good things coming.

Swim lessons are going great-if you or your child want lessons-come to the pool Monday/Wednesday/Friday at 11am...no need to register. Cost is $6 per child/ per lesson.

Water Aerobics are also going great. We are average 10-12 ladies (men are welcome too yknow) twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Our thanks to the Hogsett Family!

We'd like to take a minute to send a HUGE thank you to Amy & Randy Hogsett for the brand new air conditioner they donated to the concession stand! I would say it was hotter than Haiti in there before we had it, but I guess that is something only Amy herself would really know! But, what I can say is that it has been much, MUCH cooler in there since it was installed on Saturday. I even noticed that there was less water in the fridge today, which is a very good thing. Thanks again Amy and Randy!

board meeting minutes from June 10th 2010

Meeting was called to order at 6:55 by Gregg Hendry

Treasures Report given by Kathy Smith. Account Balance: 3866.66
Bills paid this week: M&S pool supply 680.66
Payroll 573.38
Sams Club 275.99

Kristina Kish found out that there were several liens at the courthouse. After searching through old records she found that there were 9 liens total but fortunately found the paperwork showing that 8 of them have been released leaving one outstanding workers comp lien for 260 dollars.

The tax department gave the Swim club a letter of good standing which put us back to tax exempt.

A proposal was made to make 2 board members to "Go between" between Will and the board. Gregg made this motion and Kristina seconded it. Kathy Smith nominated Kristi Haney, Kristina seconded it. Kristina nominated Buzz and Kathy seconded it. Buzz and Kristi accepted the position and the motion was approved.

Kristi Haney made a motion to close the pool one hour earlier on Friday evening to be able to have a private pool party between 6 and 8. The motion was discussed and was not approved because the board felt that changing the hours after presenting them to the community would not look well.

Jeff Nance will be at the pool Friday June 11Th to look at the baby pool due to the baby pool pump not regulating correctly.

Jim McSweeny spoke with a man who works for Secure Construction Company and is going to donate 14 squares of vinyl siding. This company wants to receive 2-3 pool passes and wants us to place a company sign at our pool. We will need to purchase J channel starter corners which will cost approximately 2-350 dollars. Buzz Warner made a motion to make the purchase. Kristi Haney seconded it. Motion was approved. A letter will be written and disbursed to all 420 homes explaining what is going on and asking for donations to fund the 2-350 dollars so that we do not dip into our pool monies. Kathy Smith will write the letter. Jim also made a motion to purchase a 5 gallon can of white paint for 30 dollars to paint trim work. Jim will donate 10 dollars, Kathy Smith will donate 10, and Kristi Haney will donate 10. Paint will not be purchased with pool funds. Motion approved.

Farmdale Church of Christ will be doing a mission project and will be helping with the pool grounds. They will be asked to do the painting.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:25.

Full Swing -100 days of summer

Our 100 days of summer is in full swing!

Hot summer days are being enjoyed in a wonderful neighborhood pool. The water looks and feels great. Friendly lifeguards, smiling faces in the concession stands, fun swings-these are a few things you will be greeted with when you come. Its great to see bicycles and cars and happy kids for summer 2010.

Our first movie night was a hit-showing Alice in Wonderland and profiting $114 in admissions and $48.55 in concessions. Great results considering we contended with some evening thunderstorms, graduation weekend & closing out of baseball game season.
We continue to gain season pool passes -were now up to approximately 45 passes sold so far-most of those being family passes.

Pool parties are being booked for some lucky summer birthdays. Schedule yours today (304-733-5335 Kristi or email us.)

Zumba is on its way-stay tuned for details.
Water Aerobics begin Wednesday June 9th @ 6:45 p.m Cost is $2. (Twice weekly also on Saturdays at 10:45 a.m.)
Stay tuned also for upcoming swim lessons-open to adults and kids!

School is "officially" out next week in Cabell County~bring on the summer fun!

Thank you to Herschel Marshall who continues to work hard on the plumbing and offering us his expertise-without him-we would not be open...Thanks to a wonderful man in our community!
Thank you Trudy McCoy for the $25 donation!

To the community...we appreciate the wonderful compliments about the clear water and appearance of the grounds. But mostly we thank you for bringing your children and families to the Guyan Estates Pool!
Remember next weeks movie night~Friday June 11th at 8pm~see ya there!
(Board-we will continue to meet Thursdays @ 7pm)
